Black Horizontal Railing on White Board-and-Batten Home
Project Overview
Matched horizontal-bar railing systems on the entry landing, stair run and raised terrace of a white board-and-batten home with a gray stone base and cedar posts.
Analysis
With white siding and stone, the railing had to stay graphically simple. A black horizontal-bar profile gives the house a crisp modern line and avoids the picket density that would have closed in the covered entry.
Process
Template, shop weld and powder coat, delivery, two-stage installation to work around the covered entry, then punch list.
Outcome
One continuous railing language that ties the entry landing, stairs and terrace together and matches the home’s black window frames.

Materials Used
Black powder-coated aluminum posts, top and bottom rails with flat horizontal bar infill, welded corner assemblies, cast aluminum base plates and stainless anchors.
Methods & Techniques
Each run was templated on site, welded square in the shop, then set on anchored base plates and shimmed to a consistent rail height across the landing, stairs and terrace.
